A Message from the Principal

Dan Chapin

Welcome to the 2026–27 school year!

As we begin our second year at Avon Middle School West, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead. Last year marked a historic milestone as we opened our doors for the very first time. Together, our students, staff, and families established the foundation of a school community built on relationships, learning, perseverance, and pride.

While opening a new school brought challenges and opportunities, I could not be more proud of what we accomplished together during our inaugural year. Our students embraced new experiences, our staff established high expectations and strong connections, and our families partnered with us every step of the way. Because of those collective efforts, AMS West has quickly become a place where students feel supported, valued, and inspired to grow.

As we enter our second year, we remain committed to providing engaging learning experiences, meaningful extracurricular opportunities, and a school culture where every student can thrive. Whether through academics, athletics, performing arts, clubs, or service opportunities, we encourage all students to get involved, discover their passions, and make the most of their middle school years.

I am also incredibly thankful for our outstanding faculty and staff. Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to students make AMS West a special place. Together, we will build upon the traditions we began last year while creating new opportunities that strengthen our school community.

At Avon Middle School West, we believe that every student belongs, every student can learn at high levels, and every student deserves opportunities to grow. We look forward to partnering with families as we continue building a school where students are challenged, supported, and celebrated.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. I am excited to welcome both returning and new families to AMS West and look forward to another exceptional year together.

Warm regards,

Dan Chapin

Meet the Assistant Principals

Portrait of Assistant Principal Jessica Rabedeau.

It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as one of the Assistant Principals at Avon Middle School West. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, families, and staff who make this community so special. It is a privilege to be part of a school that is committed to helping every student learn, grow, and succeed.

After growing up in Michigan, I moved to Avon in 2015 and quickly discovered a community that would become home. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Florida, with concentrations in Reading and English as a Second Language. Recently, I returned to school to earn my Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Indiana University, further strengthening my passion for serving students, supporting educators, and leading schools.

Shortly after moving to Avon, I began my journey with Avon Community School Corporation as an ENL teacher at Avon Middle School North. I later transitioned to Avon Intermediate School East, where I spent six rewarding years teaching 6th grade Math and Science. I then had the opportunity to serve as Dean of Students for three years, a role that deepened my passion for building relationships, supporting students through challenges, and fostering a positive school culture. When our schools restructured, I was humbled and honored to be selected as one of the Assistant Principals at Avon Middle School West.

Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: my belief that relationships come first. Every student deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported, and I strive to ensure that each child who walks through our doors knows they have adults who care deeply about their success. Middle school is an exciting time filled with growth, discovery, and change, and I believe it is our responsibility to help students navigate those years with confidence while providing opportunities to learn from both their successes and their mistakes.

In my role as Assistant Principal, I am committed to partnering with our families, staff, and community to create an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe the strongest schools are built on trust, collaboration, and open communication, and I am passionate about creating a culture where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and empowered.

It is a privilege to serve the students and families of Avon Middle School West, and I am excited for all that this school year has in store. I look forward to building meaningful relationships, celebrating successes together, and continuing to make West a place where every student belongs, learns, and grows.

Assistant Principal Brianna Temple

I began my career in education with Indianapolis Public Schools, where I discovered my passion for supporting student growth and academic excellence. After gaining valuable teaching experience in other districts, I returned to IPS years later as an instructional coach, before joining Avon Community School Corporation as the Dean of Students at Avon High School.

Today, I am honored and excited to serve as the Assistant Principal at Avon Middle School West, where I am committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.

I earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, followed by a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. I then received a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at Indiana University.

Throughout my career, I have been recognized for my dedication to education, including receiving the 2013 Dedicated Educator Excellence Award from the Indiana Department of Education's Office of Educator Talent and being named Teach Indy’s 2021 Social Studies Teacher of the Year.

Beyond my work in education, I am a proud and active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where I am committed to a lifelong mission of service, sisterhood, and making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. I am passionate about giving back and believe that service is one of the most meaningful ways to create lasting, positive change. Outside of work and community service, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our Miniature Pinscher, Harlem.
