AMS West Hosts Gold Card Gathering

Along with Avon Middle School West Principal Dan Chapin, several members of Mr. Wolf's robotics class and 10 members of the student leadership team hosted a gathering of nearly three dozen of Avon's Gold Card members.

Twice a semester, Avon Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham invites Gold Card holders to attend gatherings in schools around the school district. In addition to connecting with one another and enjoying refreshments, they hear district updates and, most importantly, they get to interact with outstanding students, educators, and administrators. Since it was the first gathering held at AMS West, which opened in July, this large and enthusiastic group got to enjoy student-guided tours.

Looking ahead to the 2026-27 school year, attendees spent time brainstorming the topics they'd like to cover. Among the items they suggested were:

• How are we so successful fostering a culture of inclusion among students of so many backgrounds and abilities?
• Can we learn more about transportation, facilities, and food service?
• Could we sit in on a band, choir, orchestra, or dance rehearsal at Avon High School?
• Would it be possible to get a presentation about Area 31?
• Could we hear directly from students who've won state championships?

In Avon Schools, we always talk about how wonderful it is to serve in a community that is so supportive of our schools. Our Gold Card holders—Avon residents age 65 and up—are an excellent example of the enthusiastic support of the community.
