AMS West's Very Special Hat Day

Students and staff at Avon Middle School West had a very special hat day last Friday. The funds they raised are going to make a big impact in the life of one student and his family.
AMS West student Davon Island and his family lost their house recently due to fire. It was a massive loss for the family. Because Avon is A Valley of Neighbors, Assistant Principal Briana Temple knew AMS West students and staff would want to pitch in to help Davon and his family begin the process of recovering.
"We collected clothes and donations all week for him, but Friday was the official Hat Day," says Mrs. Temple. "Our school community has come together in such an amazing way to support Davon and his family!"

To wear a hat to school, staff and students had to contribute $2 to the cause. Most students and staff participated. Donations were received by Avon United Methodist Church who then gave the funds to the family.
As of Tuesday, May 12, AMS West students and staff have raised more than $2,600 to help Davon and his family.
