Project Origins

groundbreaking

As the Town of Avon and Washington Township have grown, student enrollment in Avon Schools has grown, too. As a school corporation, our strategy has been to manage growth by maximizing each square foot of our school buildings, controlling costs by expanding existing schools before building new, and minimizing disruption to students, families, and employees by only making changes when necessary.

The time has come to build a new school for the first time since River Birch Elementary opened in 2010. In that time, enrollment has grown by more than 2,000 students. The addition of Avon Middle School West — and the corresponding realignment of our school corporation — prepares us to ensure there's enough room to help ALL students belong, learn, and grow.

What to Expect as Avon Schools Grows Together

Over the course of four short videos, Avon Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham explains the background of this era of strategic growth, financial considerations, what's to come with Avon Middle School West and our two intermediate schools, and what work will be done to prepare our school corporation's staff, students, and families for the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.

Strategic Growth Model Announcement

Dr. Wyndham made this announcement to Avon Schools families and the community in December 2022. In it, he provides the background and benefits of the decision to move toward construction of AMS West.

Strategic Growth Video Series

Demographic studies tell us we can expect enrollment in Avon Schools to grow by at least 1,600 students in the next decade. Please read or watch this message to learn how you can participate in the process of choosing how we will grow to meet the need. (Changes would occur no sooner than the start of the 2025-26 school year.)

In this series of short videos, district leaders discuss our growing student enrollment numbers, the need for expansion, three options for strategic growth, and how it all can be accomplished with no impact to taxpayers or use of referendum funds.

Groundbreaking is a significant milestone in what has been a deliberate and thorough process involving helpful input from students, educators, parents, and members of the community.Superintendent Dr. Scott Wyndham
