Room for More

Welcome to Avon Middle School West. We are glad that you stopped by to learn more about the construction of our school. Below, you'll find our story — why the construction of our school building was necessary — as well as information about financial considerations and our purposeful design.

We are glad we are able to welcome our students to Avon Middle School West as Avon Schools makes room for more.

Project Origins

groundbreaking

As the Town of Avon and Washington Township have grown, student enrollment in Avon Schools has grown, too. As a school corporation, our strategy has been to manage growth by maximizing each square foot of our school buildings, controlling costs by expanding existing schools before building new, and minimizing disruption to students, families, and employees by only making changes when necessary.

In 2023, the time finally came break ground on a new school — Avon's third middle school — Avon Middle School West.

Since 2010, the last time Avon Schools built a new school, enrollment has grown by more than 2,200 students. The construction of AMS West — and the corresponding realignment of our school corporation — was designed to ensure there would be enough room to help ALL students belong, learn, and grow for decades to come.

Timeline

Financial Impact

tax impact

While many school corporations across the state of Indiana are working to navigate the challenges that come with declining student enrollment, Avon Schools has had the privilege of working to find ways to provide the best educational experience to an ever-increasing number of students.

Because of the conservative fiscal approach of our district's leaders, we are able to issue debt for this new construction project as current debts are paid off. Therefore, there is no increase to our taxpayers.
